The Mansion at Night

We return to Rose & Ramin's wedding at the Delaware Mansion. It was only a month ago in December where we didn't have any snow & Rose didn't need a coat, boots or a shawl!

After we took this shot, we ventured across the street to get a completely different view with the front of the building in the background. There's a parking lot across the street with a bench. We had Rose and Ramin sit down. There was a patch of tall grass between the bench and the parking lot. Neal shot through the tall grass giving a neat effect in the foreground. We got quite a few different shots at the end of the night and it only took about 5-10 minutes. Whenever we steal couples away during the night they thank us because they needed a break or some fresh air to cool off so it's always a win, win!

Neal here, Danielle and I have photographed so many weddings at this location but we never shot from this perspective before. If there's ever a slow moment on the dance floor when we can escape for a few minutes we do so to scout what we're going to do with the couple. Having a game plan for this is important. The last thing you want to do is steal the couple away from their party for a long time. Not only do I pick out the location(s) but I plan out the poses and lighting so everything has a nice flow to it for the couple. The last thing you should do at this point is tinker around with ideas, lights, create poses etc. It just takes up time and clients shouldn't have to wait at this point of the day.

The lighting here was pretty simple... In the parking lot there was a lamp post directly behind me to the left that gave me the perfect amount of light. The globe was frosted so it was nicely diffused. We then added more light and put a kicker light on the groom.
